  • Affiliate Marketing
Affiliate marketing is the concept of business using 'affiliates' to promote products or services. A modernization of wholesaling would be an apt interpretation. You become an affiliate (or distributor) for a company by joining their affiliate program and promoting their website for a commission on sales from your efforts. There are many affiliate networks that represent companies from all over the world. As a website owner you will want to seek out any affiliations that interest you and determine if the offer is one you want to promote. It seems like every other website you visit these days has an affiliate or 'partners' link. Make no mistake - the most lucrative affiliations are not what you might think... • CPC - Cost Per Click
The cost per click is the most important aspect of Pay Per Click advertising. When you advertise on the content and search networks your CPC is what determines how fast your budget is depleted. If you spend $100 on an ad campaign and get 100 click-throughs on your ads, your average cost per click is one dollar. In reverse if you publish network ads on your own website you will be paid per click. If your website generates 100 clicks on your published ads in a month and you earned $100 from the clicks , your website had a CPC of one dollar. That is, it earned $1 per click. Back To Top ∆
  • CTR - Click Through Rate
The amount of clicks on an ad as compared to its number of views (known as impressions.) If an ad receives 5 clicks on 100 impressions it has a CTR of 5%. Back To Top ∆
  • Content
The information published on a web page. This can include text, art, logos, photographs, product pics, blog entries. Some content can only be provided by the website owner. If you need videos for your site you can make them or have them made. If you need 5 emails for a drip email campaign you can write them yourself or have them written for you. Many of the big box web design companies out there will charge you an arm and a leg for original copy writing - beware - you may not get what you thought you paid for. Contact Us right now to learn all about web page content. Back To Top ∆
  • Conversion Rate
The percentage of visitors to your website or sales page that actually buy or complete a required action like sign up for your Email list. Back To Top ∆
  • Copy
The actual text of a website or advertisement. Professional copy writers make big bucks as they know how to write copy that produces sales. The copy for your web pages are like the words in your own book. Better to write this yourself if you can. At SCM we strongly encourage each website owner to at least try and contribute some original copy. We edit your copy, give you ideas for more and better copy and provide keywords from our research for you to use. We can also of course provide all the original web page copy writing you might need at additional cost. Back To Top ∆

  • Impressions
Refers to views of a web page or advertisement. Also known as page loads when referring to each new call from the user's computer to the server. If the user reloads a page three times this will count as page loads but not impressions. The ads on the page are smart enough to know it's the same visitor. Back To Top ∆
  • Inbound Marketing
Advertising that is more permission based, that is your prospective customer already likes to hear from you.

SEO, Blogging, Social Media, RSS Feeds, Free Trials and Viral Videos are all great examples of Inbound Marketing. Back To Top ∆
  • Keywords
Specific word on a web page that is relevant to the content. "Long Tail Keywords" are specific phrases. The keyword "credit card" has massive amounts of competition. That means there are a lot of websites that contain the key word "credit card."

A click for the long tail keyword "no fee credit card" may be more in the $8 range.

  • SEO - Search Engine Optimization
The concept of planning, designing and constructing your website in such a manner as to make your pages appear high on web searches for relative content. We hear all the time from clients -
"My site comes up first in Google." And it does, but not really. If your business is Pierre's French Bistro and you type "pierres french bistro" in a Google search you of course should come up first, but who actually is going to type that into a search? People who have already heard of you. You want your website to be found by new potential customers who are searching on terms like, 'local dining coupons' and 'local french restaurant' or 'local catering'.
